LondonFurs is having a special day this Saturday, and our chairman, Ani Boxer, has a few things he wants to say…
The 300th LondonFurs meet is happening this weekend and is another milestone passed for furries in London, and around the world. It’s amazing that an off the cuff meet up of four friends became such a large part of people’s lives.
I started attending LondonFurs in 2008 and my first meet was horrific! I don’t think I managed to have a conversation with anyone following it — I vowed never to go again! After some online conversations later in the year, I plucked up the courage to attend the winter party, which began at one of the old venues (Saint) to what is now Fleet Place. Following that, I became a regular attendee and wanted to become part of the committee to help out where I could, as I had some of the best times of my life at them.
Joining the committee gave me an insight into the stress and commitment it took to put these events on. I saw the best and worse of these moments including committee members leaving due to pressures of wanting nothing but the best for attendees. It’s not always been easy; there have been plenty of times where it’s been hard to keep motivated, but I always go back to where I was during that first meet, who I have met and who’s lives I have been a part of since then!
I became chairman of LondonFurs in 2014, six years after my (horrific) first meet experience and am proud to be able to continue to do so.
In that time since its creation, we have all seen the dramatic effects and benefits it has had in peoples lives socially and emotionally, which just pushes us all to keep working hard to bring the best we can for everyone.
I would like to thank absolutely everyone that has been involved both historically and currently in supporting our events for such a wonderful community of people.
I’d love to use this opportunity to say what an absolute pleasure it has been to work alongside such a mastermind in design and creativity as Miyabi, throughout my whole time as a committee member. LondonFurs owes so much to him (big love).
Finally, we would love to hear about your first meet experiences via Twitter and Facebook — please use
#myfirstLFM and #LFM300, I can’t wait to read them.
Huge love to all past, present and future attendees… I hope to see you at a meet soon!
